Social Responsibility for Emirates Transport

Emirates Transport is committed to its obligations in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) towards the environment, society, employees and the labour market. The objective of these practices and initiatives is the strengthening of the corporation’s role as an integral, responsible, influential and interactive part within the society. 

These efforts follow the national trend in the field of social responsibility, which aim to include all corporations of the society both in the public and private sectors, as well as individuals.

Emirates Transport’s charter for social responsibility

In this context, the corporation has put in place a special policy, represented in the charter for social responsibility, and includes a set of principles, concepts and methodologies, which ensures the need to adhere to the national goals towards the society, through leadership in providing social services, providing care for employees, preservation of the environments and promotion of safety for various beneficiary groups and services. The adherence to national goals will also occur though the attention to excellence in servicing  the society, the environment, safety, employees and the leadership in the application of international standards for social responsibility.

Strategic partnerships to boost CSR

Emirates Transport is keen to work in strategic partnerships with charitable and community serving institutions. The corporation also has strategic links to the Ministry of Education and the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), through collaborations on providing school buses to transport people of determination as well as providing a bus designed to transport students to the Ministry of Social Affairs’ rehabilitation centres, and the conversion of the vehicles of various ministries to operate on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

Community support and sponsorships

The corporation provides exclusive free transport for various social services, in addition to providing free bus advertisements for public awareness campaigns. It also offers care and financial support for various programmes and activities and provides discounts in the prices of transport and auto services.

Team of volunteers

Employees are encouraged to volunteer in various activities in the field of social responsibility. A team for volunteering activities, comprised of various employees of the corporation, has been formed to oversee this activity.

Occupational health and safety

The health and safety of the corporations’ staff and the beneficiaries of corporations’ services is considered one of the most important areas of social responsibility in the organization. An annual campaign is organized under the name of “Occupational Health & Safety Month” with the aim of promoting the social welfare and improving the living standards of employees.

Eco-friendly services

With Emirates Transport’s commitment to offer more eco-friendly solutions, a range of services have been introduced based on the latest and best green techniques and regulations. One of these services is the conversion of vehicles to operate on CNG, complete with comprehensive maintenance and spare parts options. Another project is the dry car wash service which includes external washing and polishing through advanced nanotechnology techniques, which preserves the vehicles paint from damage. The corporation also established a tyre retreating unit which offers recycled used tyres at reduced prices, an environmentally and economically sound option for business.

Moreover, the corporation’s practices incorporates the values of protecting the environment and the conservation of natural resources for future generations, by limiting the consumption of resources such as electricity, water and fuel, and the reduction of emissions and harmful radiations, as well as the disposal of solid and liquid waste through safe methods and creating environmentally-friendly buildings.

Awards and certificates for CSR activities

In recognition of the corporation’s successful role in corporate social responsibility, it was given numerous awards and certificates in that field. These awards include the Dubai Chamber CSR Label for the years between 2012 and 2016, the Top Companies to Work for in the UAE 2014, the Dubai Human Development Appreciation Award (DHDAA)in 2014, Emirates energy award in 2013, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s award for government excellence for the conversion of vehicle to natural gas project in 2014, the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport in six consecutive sessions, the BGreen award for sustainable environment in 2013, the UITP Award  for the corporation’s role in reducing the risk of traffic congestions, pollutions and speeding up that response rate for its customers.

The Corporation also won the Arabia CSR Awards from 2014 to 2016, the UAE Ideas Award from 2013 to 2016 and the Ideas Arabia Award from 2013 to 2016.

Annual Report “Growth & Sustainability 2013”, according to GRI standards

Since 2013, Emirates Transport has issued its Annual Report in both Arabic and English. The latest of these was the 2016 Annual Report titled “Leading Steps Towards Promising Horizons”. The report combined the Corporation’s Annual Report and its Sustainability Report. The report was prepared ‘In Accordance’ with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 Guidelines – “Comprehensive Option”.

In its five chapters, the report addressed the outcomes of all business centres distributed across ET’s four main divisions, as well as the various CSR activities and initiatives. The report also highlighted the Corporation’s new strategic approach which was adopted after the expiration of the Strategic Plan 2014-2016.
